Quotes of the day

Watching Justice League Unlimited on Boomerang! with Jamie, I've discovered they're WAAAAAAYYYY cooler than they used to be...

"Let me see your identity papers." - Government thug to Justice League members
"Sorry, my identity's a secret. Chicks dig that whole 'man of mystery' thing." - The Flash

Then later...

"All right, who's hand is that?" - Wonder Woman to the male Justice Leaguers while all are cramped inside a two-seater space ship

Okay, I've not seen the new Justice League and I only remember so much about the old one. Is the Flash's last name really Gordon? Or is Flash Gordon the space serial hero part of the Justice League?

As your question left me stymied, I decided to cruise on over to Cartoon Network's official site for Justice League Unlimited (www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/jlu). It would seem that he is now just "The Flash". At one point in time I remember him being called "Flash Gordon". Guess his name evolved some.

Those are two different characters. The Flash is the character that can run really fast because he was simultaneously splashed by a shelf full of chemicals and struck by lightening. His speed comes from his body being a gateway to the Speed Force, an extradimensional energy source. Flash Gordon is a comic strip character from the 1930’s known for his swashbuckling adventures in space rescuing scantily clad women from evil aliens (similar to the classic John Carter novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs). There have been some modern adaptations of Flash Gordon in both DC (which is the company that owns the Justice League) and Marvel, however, neither company incorporated him into the universe with their other characters. I would like to blame my thorough knowledge of these characters on my eight year old son, but in truth, I am just a big nerd.

Thanks for the info, Roy! I've updated this post to reflect the real name of the character.

BTW - Do you have any suggestions for my son's halloween mask (see previous post). Since our sons are the same age, maybe you've had to tackle this dilemna before...
