6 Weird Things

Okay, okay, I've procrastinated long enough on doing this Meme that Suze tagged me with. Considering school has started back, I just moved into a new place, work has gotten more hectic, etc., y'all are lucky I've updated at all, much less twice in one week.

So, here goes...

6 Weird Things About Me

1. I can rapidly flare my nostrils at will like some mutant bunny-woman scenting for danger. This trick often comes in handy when I'm trying to get fussy babies to quit squalling.

2. My eyes change color from bright/light blue, to sea green, to steel gray, to yellow, depending on what mood I'm in. My son has inherited this nifty little genetic fluke.

3. I have two toe-nails on each of my pinky toes. I call my teeny little second set of nails my "dew-claws". (Jamie did not inherit this particular fluke, though.)

4. If I work on a project or assignment well in advance of the deadline, I usually get a failing grade. If I do it at the last minute, I get an "A". This is my justification for my extreme procrastination.

5. I actually enjoy wearing dress shoes with heel heights of 3" or more. Several of my dress shoes I wear to work even have 4" heels. In my book, the higher the heel, the better the shoe. And for those of you who don't know me - I'm not a short woman. I like skyscraper heels so I can look like some sort of Amazonian woman.

6. I have a freakishly accurrate memory, especially when it comes to numbers and remembering conversations verbatim. However, memorizing numbers is about all I can do in that department. I'm so terrible at math I can barely balance a check book. Yet I can recall the project number and project specifics for any given client in my company's project listing. I also can repeat back to my boss three weeks or more later the specific instructions he gave me for any given client correspondence. Must be all those scripts I read and memorized in high school and college. Thank you, Ms. Moore!

There, it's done! And if you haven't already been tagged to do this by someone else, then that means I'm tagging you now. Go get blogging people!

Sorry It's Been So Long!

Yikes - where has the month of January gone? Seems like just yesterday I put up a post about boogie-ing on New Year's Eve, and already 20-some odd days have gone by! Sheesh!

Here's what I've been up to that has prevented me from putting up any more posts:

  • Two friends of Rachel's (adult brothers) and one of the guys' six-year-old son crashed in our living room for most of the month of January. Due to no jobs for over six months, they had no money to pay rent and got evicted. They recently got new jobs, but the apartment company (despite an offer from the new boss to pay back rent and a couple of months in advance) decided to kick them out anyway. So they stayed with us. Seven people in a two bedroom one bath apartment made life interesting. We all spent a lot of time outdoors - even though the weather turned nasty and everything wound up coated in a 1/2" sheet of ice . We didn't care. We had to go outside to think.
  • School was supposed to start for me last week, but due to the housing situation and some other exciting news, I have yet to crack a book.
  • Jamie's birthday was a week ago this past Saturday. I looked up and realized my little boy is being erased by the young man he's becoming.
  • Speaking of birthdays, Joel's birthday was yesterday. Happy birthday, Bubby!
  • Work has been grueling with lots of lengthy reports needing to be finished before I even begin them, if you know what I mean...

AND, THE MOST EXCITING NEWS OF ALL!

Saturday, Rachel, Destiny, Jamie, Ziggy and I moved into a four bedroom two bathroom house! A house, a house, my kingdom for a house! Yay!!! I have my own room again. I have my bed back. My dog gets to choose which person he wants to curl up with at night (last night he did half in Jamie's room, half in mine). The kids have their own spaces! Woo hoo!!!

Oh, and Rachel's friends? Don't worry about them. We finagled a deal with the apartment complex that they got to take over my lease for the last two months. And their boss is helping them out with the rent and searching for a house when the apartment lease expires.

So thank you, God, for your many blessings and the way things worked out. Otherwise, we couldn't have gotten the house until the end of March, and who knows if it would even be on the market still.

I Guess I'm Officially a Texan

Rachel and I went out last night to a dancehall called Midnight Rodeo to celebrate New Year's Eve. It's the first time in my life I've ever been able to go out on New Year's Eve (or Amateur Night, as Becca calls it!). We weren't too worried about getting home safely, though, because it's only about three blocks from my apartment.

Rachel's brother Greg spent the night to babysit the kiddies. I bought them all they needed to make Shirley Temples for them to drink for New Year's Eve. That's a family tradition my mom started and one I've faithfully upheld for Jamie. In fact, this was the first year I wasn't the one at home with Jamie fixing them (sprite/7-Up, grenadine syrup and marachino cherries).

Anyway, so Rachel and I went out and shot some pool, danced, shot more pool, danced some more. Then one of Rachel's friends made me officially (sort of) a Texan. Yep, he taught me how to Two-Step. It's loads of fun! Now when I go out again in about two months I'll actually be able to dance to the country, twangy music, instead of just watching.

I say it will be about two months because Rachel made me promise that I would go out with her somewhere without the kids at least once every two months. It seems the fact that school, kids and work was wearing me down was getting quite obvious to everyone last semester.

Anyhoo, Happy New Year to you all!
