Thursday Rant - Your Turn!

Okay, so I'm really really busy today. But I've made a commitment to myself to be a better blogger, so I've been trying to post more regularly and do more fun and interactive things on here (BTW - Amazon.com gift card winners, your cards are coming, I promise!) So, since it's Rant Thursday, and I don't have much time, I thought I'd take this opportunity to let you rant. Go on, vent a little. Post in the comments something that's been bugging you lately.

Is it crappy parents who go on vacation to Florida for a week and leave their 11 year olds at home to fend for themselves?

Is it people who are supposed to serve and protect their cities who instead abuse their power and wind up killing innocent people?

Or is it whiny bloggers who make up Rant Thursdays and then blog about everything they think is wrong with the world? :-)

Please, leave a comment and rant away! I want to know I'm not the only one ranting and raving.

My current rant is sex addiction. It's not that I believe it's not real, I just believe that not nearly as many people actually suffer from it as they want you to believe. There is a difference between having a sense of entitlement coupled with serious impulse control and having an actual honest-to-God addiction. And frankly, all the celebrities who want you to believe that they should be let off of crappy, double-timing behavior because they have an addiction just make it that much harder for people who really struggle with addiction (to anything) to be taken seriously. If this was any other illness (cancer, diabetes, schizophrenia) would we accept people pretending to have it get out of being held accountable?

Well, you asked.

I agree with you totally. "Oh, I cheated on my gorgeous, talented, loving spouse over and over and over and over again.... Why, I must be a sex addict. Yeah, THAT'S why I can't keep it in my pants! It's not that I'm a big schmuck. No! It can't be that!"

I hear ya. I agree with ya. And before some of my male readers get up in arms, there are plenty of women who are just as guilty of being cheating jerks. We, as a society, have a tendency to lay blame elsewhere and not take responsibility for our actions and the decisions we make. And we, as the rest of society, have a tendency to smile and swallow it when someone feeds us a line laying blame elsewhere. True, there are those suffering from such addictions, but jerkwads who lay claim to such an illness when it isn't really theirs just makes it that much harder for the ones with the real illnesses to get diagnosed and treated.

I saw an article in Maclean's yesterday that suggested a more accurate name for the condition would be "horniness".
