What I Want for Christmas

Several people lately have asked me what I want for Christmas. Since a million bucks is kind of out of range of most of the folks I know, I've finally decided what I want - a day off from EVERYTHING.

No papers to write
no chapters of really boring text books to read
no work reports to type
no payroll reports to run
no bills to process for payment
no invoices to prepare
no phone calls
no walking the dog
no kids
no other adults
no computer
no responsibility to do anything whatsoever.

I want 24 hours of total solitude with nothing but the 500 channels on cable, a pile of good books and magazines, a huge stash of chocolate and my nice comfy bed.

Anybody able to give me that for Christmas?

You'll probably think I'm awful, Suzie-Q, but for those days when Jamie was a baby and wouldn't nap, I utilized benadryl. He had bad allergies even as a baby, and I quickly noticed when I gave him the benadryl, he'd go right to sleep. So I made sure to keep some on hand. Now, I didn't do it all the time, just when I had about had it and desperately needed a nap or else I'd go nuts.

Love ya, and I hope it gets better!

Jennifer, I too have been guilty of benedryl abuse. Actually it wasn't abuse, since it was prescribed. Everett was not a good sleeper, and I knew trying to get him to go to sleep at his grandparents house in Corbin was going to be really tough. I called the doctor's office and told the nurse that I was going to need something for him for sleeping. She said she'd give the message to the doctor, but she doubted that he would do anything--he never did. She was pretty surprised when he told her to tell me to give him a tablespoon of benedryl at bedtime. I did. He was standing in the crib, jumping up and down, boingy, boingy, boing, bonk--down and out like a light. The same doctor also had me give Lydia the same dose of benedryl when she had chicken pox at the age of 13 months. The kid was pretty much in a benedryl-induced coma for two weeks.

believe me, i'm tempted to try medicating him. he's been on a solid food boycott the last day or so as well. i know he's not sick, since he's got plenty of energy. i wonder if he's still decompressing from last week when he had plenty of people to hold him during naptime and now it's just me and i can't give him the same amount of attention. it'll pass...

Yeah, that could be it. Being used to being passed from hand to hand, always getting fussed over and cuddled, then when everybody else goes home expecting the same from Mamma... Just remember the Mamma Mantra and you'll fly right through it!
